The Good Old Days

I finally skeined some of my new yarn and picked up Pomatomus again.  I still love the pattern and the yarn.  You can definitely see that there is a difference in in the dye lots:

However, it works for me and I will always be eternally grateful to the saints at Blue Moon Fiber Arts for treating me so well and getting me more Marbles.  Interestingly, this new skein of STR seems to be striping, whereas the previous skein did not.  That striping that you can see across the patterned stitches on top does not continue around to the plain stockinette on the bottom.  I find it really intriguing. . . another one of those experiences where I keep knitting in order to see what's going to happen next with the colors.

I did wind the Carbon Dating STR that Rossana sent me, and I'm contemplating a sock pattern that would be perfect for it.  I'm dying to try something out of one of my new sock books, Knitting Vintage Socks and Sensational Knitted Socks, but there are all those cool sock patterns in various issues of Interweave Knits, plus all the free patterns available online.  I hope to have the Pomatomus socks done soon, and I'm going to need to get another pair of socks on the needles, pronto, so I have to decide.  Any sock patterns that have rocked your world lately?

I'm tempted to knit another pair of Pomatomus socks, but I'm terrified of running out of yarn again, so I won't do that with STR.  The new skeins have only 35 yards more yarn than the old skeins, so I think I'd still run out of yarn.  Picking up this sock, though, has been very comforting.  The last time I worked on this sock was before all of the crap started happening in the past few weeks, so not only am I returning to old friends (yarn and pattern), but I feel like I'm returning to a time when I felt safer and more secure.  I guess these socks are turning into a bit of a security object for me.

What's everyone up to this weekend?  It looks like lots and lots of rain here, so I should get some decent knitting time in, although let's all keep our fingers crossed for Claudia, who will be on her MS ride, and Cara, who has her Spin Out event happening.  There's still time to donate, and to do your no-rain dance, so get going and have a good one!

Pomatomus looks great. I love the colors. Socks really are a comfort knit, far better than comfort food I suppose!

I hope to be hanging out with Cara in the park tomorrow, unless the rain is too torrential and she calls it off. I'm hoping the storms hold off until late in the day.
